Slowing Down When Everything Is Speeding Up

What to Do When Everything Is Speeding Up… and You Just Want to Slow Down

At the beginning of the year, everything seems to push us toward acceleration.

Calendars fill up.

Projects line up one after another.

Expectations — sometimes unspoken — take their place again.

We should move forward.Be available.

Stay in motion.

And yet.

Sometimes, deep down, that is not what we want at all.

Not because of extreme fatigue. Not because of a lack of drive.

But because another need makes itself heard:the need to slow down.

Listening to Yourself Rather Than Listening to Everything Else

In those moments, the disconnect is subtle. Nothing dramatic.

Just a persistent feeling that going faster would not make things any more right.

So a simple — yet demanding — question arises: What am I really listening to?

External signals are everywhere.

The collective pace.Soft-spoken expectations. Silent comparisons.

Listening to yourself is something else entirely.

It means paying attention to what is happening inside, even when it does not match the surrounding tempo.

And sometimes, what you hear is very clear: this is not the time to accelerate.

What If This Were the Right Moment to Pause and Clarify

Slowing down creates space.

A rare space — but a precious one.

A space where, without judgment, you can quietly name a few simple reference points:

  • what you truly want to do,

  • what you can do with your current resources,

  • what you no longer want to do — even if you have accepted it for a long time.

This moment is not a step backward. It is a clarification.

Setting these boundaries — these desires, these capacities — is not about freezing the future. It is about giving it a more accurate frame.

Choosing the Right Rhythm

In a world that values speed, slowing down can feel countercultural.

And yet, it is often what prevents false starts.

Slowing down is not stopping. It is moving differently.

With greater awareness. With less dispersion.

Sometimes, it is these quiet choicesthat truly shape what comes next.

What If What Matters Right Now Is Not Going Faster, but Going Truer?

I wish you a gentle, smooth transition into February.

At the rhythm that suits you.

Without unnecessary pressure.

With all my care, Sophie
